Joseph F. Hipskind died on December 21, 2017 due to complications from Alzheimer’s at eighty-six years of age. He was born in Wabash, Indiana to Leona (Rice) Hipskind and Robert Hipskind. After graduating from high school, he served in the US Army in Germany. Upon completion of his service in the army, Joseph attended college and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a probation officer with the Marion County Juvenile Court until obtaining employment as an electrical engineer at Navel Avionics. He worked at Naval Avionics until his retirement.
Joseph was an active member at All Souls Unitarian Church. He was a kind, loving, and compassionate neighbor, friend, and father. In 1959, he married Sonya S. Sackett. Joseph is survived by his wife, Sonya Sackett-Hipskind, and his sister, Sarah Metz. He is survived by his son, James A. Hipskind and his wife, Sheri Hipskind, and their four children, Jessica, Christopher, Nicole, and Michael. Also, Joseph is survived by his daughter, Molly N. Hipskind-Millians and her daughter, Ellen Justus.
Joseph will be remembered by those who knew him for his kindness, warmth and acceptance of others, his compassion, and his love for his children and grandchildren. Also, he will be remembered for his terrible, but funny jokes. We love and miss him very much.
