Robert Lee Redd, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2025. Robert was born in Brandon, Mississippi, in 1944 to M.T. and Dolly Dimple Redd. As a young man, Robert worked as an over-the-road truck driver and served active duty and reserves in the US Army. After relocating to Indianapolis, Robert was a welder for Commercial Filters, a carman for Amtrak, and contractor for FedEx Home Delivery.Upon retirement, Robert had several hobbies and interests. On any given day, you could find Robert in the garage working on cars, trucks, or lawn mowers for neighbors and family. He also enjoyed mowing lawns and doing other types of yard work. When Robert wasn’t watching his favorite Westerns and action movies, he would be watching his favorite sports. Robert’s favorite baseball team was the Chicago Cubs and his favorite football team was the Indianapolis Colts, which was extra special to him because his grandson, Cameron McGrone, was on the team. You would never see Robert not wearing the many Colts caps he had collected over the years. Robert was also a “car guy” who dreamed of owning a Chevy Corvette.
In 1998, Robert joined Rock of Ages Missionary Church of Deliverance and became chairman of the building fund. While Robert was in the final stages of this life, Pastor and Sister Adams visited him in the hospital and prayed with him. Robert always had a strong desire to be reunited with the church and strengthen his relationship with the Lord. Robert was preceded in death by his parents MT and Dolly Redd; his brothers, James Redd and Dave Redd, his brothers-in-law, Horace Walker and Arthur Johnson; his sister-in-law, Shirley Redd; his son-in-law, Melvin Lyles; and his grandson, Jeffrey Jenkins.
Robert, who was one of nine children, is survived by his siblings Melvin (Margaret) Redd Jr., Emma Jean Walker, Dolly Johnson, Patricia (Ray) Spann, Clyde (Cindy) Roundtree, Clay Redd, and sisters-in-law LaDonna Redd and Linda Redd.
Robert is also survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Florence Redd, as well as his children Robert (Tommika) Redd Jr., Tamara Redd-Jenkins, Angela Williams, Brian Williams, Chantel Williams, and David (Lynn) Redd, thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
