Gary Alan Roose, 65, who resided in Indianapolis, Indiana passed away quietly at home under his wife Sharron Lee’s care. Born February 22, 1954 to David and Betty Roose, Gary grew up in The Collinwood area of Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated high school and joined the Army in 1972. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Gary was 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st and 49th 8th Army Infantry Division. His group did night maneuvers and were called Night Owls. He Specialized in demolitions and explosives. His duties were performed in the jungles near Chu Lai, Vietnam. His mission was to locate and release soldiers whose service was ending and to help evacuate wounded soldiers to waiting rescue helicopters. Gary had great respect for the Warrant officers who flew those missions. Gary became a tradesman for the Union and served a four-year apprenticeship as a painter and drywall finisher. He married Magdeline Farone in 1980 and had 2 children, Ryan, who is deceased and Megan Alicia. Gary’s career included construction, painting and drywall finishing, driving heavy machinery, construction supervision, government surveillance and playing percussion as a studio musician in Los Angeles, California. Gary married Lorren Tamboni in 2000 and lived in Williamsburg, Virginia where he worked as a construction supervisor on several army bases and did surveillance for the government. He met and married Sharon Lee Gurman in 2008 and they eventually settled in Indianapolis, Indiana. Battling PTSD, Gary created and lived a good life full of work which came first and many adventures including playing percussion onstage with Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons. Gary played backup drums with Greg Allman as a studio musician in Los Angeles, California in the 1980’s. He survived facial cancer, parachuted from airplanes, scuba diving and bungee jumped. Gary’s family members included his parents, David and Betty (Black) Roose, both deceased, loving brothers David Roose and Jeff Roose, sisters Jacque (Roose) Gallagher, Lori (Roose) Schultz and loving sister Nancy Roose, surviving spouse Magdeline Farone and children Ryan Roose(deceased) and daughter Megan Alicia Roose, surving spouse Sharron Lee (James) Roose and loving step-sons Hayden, Michael, Elijah, and Joseph Gurman; 7 loving step-grandchildren. Gary brought Sharron’s family joy and entertainment. He loved Jazz music and especially being next to his wife Sharron Lee, Gary loved ham! With gratitude and respect and humility we than the dedicated Doctors, Nurses and staff at the VA Roudebush Medical Center for their tireless efforts to keep Gary Healthy and Happy and to the team of nurses, Aides and Chaplin at Brookdale Hospice we send our deepest appreciation, love and respect for helping our Gary to leave this life under his terms.
