Mercedes Cochran VanNoy passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer. Marcy as she was known to family and friends, was 86 years old. She was with her son Ron and daughter-in-law Jane at their shared home in Plainfield, Indiana.

During her lifetime Marcy held many jobs. She was a bookkeeper, caterer, cake maker, EMT, and most recently a receptionist/coordinator for a nursing and rehab facility.

Marcy’s family was very important to her, and she was a caring mother and grandmother.

Marcy is survived by her sisters Claire (John) Flaherty and Genevieve (Gary) Freeman; children, Ron (Jane) DeMent, J. Lynne (Lisa Snyder), DeMent, and Genevieve (Heidi Welser) Etkin; grandchildren, Tyler and Esme Etkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Cochran and Bernard (Martha) Cochran, siblings, Cecilia Fleischmann, Patricia (Don) Cecil, John Cochran, Phyllis Cochran and Buddy Cochran, and nephews Patrick Flaherty and Michael Cecil.

Marcy will be laid to rest at the Gate of Heaven cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to a hospice facility of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
