Patricia Blevins died Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the age of 85, in Indianapolis, IN. Patricia Ann Adams was born to Eleanor Margaret Lionberger, Adams Nelson and Richard Guy Adams in Hannibal, MO, on November 21, 1938Pat’s sharp tongue gave way to a joyous love for nature, music, and art. She learned piano by ear with her brothers Kenny and Richard. She raised her two children on a musical diet of Stravinsky; Peter, Paul, and Mary; The Beatles, and old Broadway and folk tunes. She loved to read and wrote beautiful poetry she shared with her family. She attended Hannibal LaGrange Community College and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri. She worked at CarDon & Associates, which provides senior living facilities, for most of her career. She was an active member of the Brown County Garden Club and the Brown County Artists Association, where she served in leadership positions. She worked as an art teacher for 10 years in the Clark Pleasant Community School system. Pat’s home was filled with paper crafts, pastel and pen and ink drawings, oil and watercolor paintings, and pressed flowers. (And frogs. Frog towels, statues, soap dispensers…lots of frogs.) Her granddaughters fondly remember learning crafts from her. Family members still love adorning their December holiday with her creations including stars (made from plant stalks), angels and nativity scenes (carved in ivory soap), original poetry (made into tree ornaments) and intricate, paper snowflakes where one might glimpse a dove, angel, swan, or frog (of course!). Pat was also a master gardener. She took particular joy in crafting gardens filled with wild and native flowers, eschewing the manicured look preferred by some landscapers. (She had a habit of pilfering plants from public parks, embarrassing her children and later her grandchildren). She is preceded in death by her father, Richard Guy Adams; her mother, Eleanor Margaret Adams and Henry Nelson; and her younger brother, Kenneth Wayne Adams. She is survived by her brother Richard Dale Adams (Diane), sister-in-law Sandra Adams, son Adam Garrett Blevins, daughter Pamela Blevins Hinkle and son-in-law Charles Eric Hinkle, and granddaughters Ruth Eleanor Hinkle (John Mast) and Aletha Rose Hinkle.

A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on November 21 (Pat’s birthday) at the New Aeon Center, 1818 W. 57th Street, Indianapolis, followed by a simple meal. Please send flowers (arriving by Nov. 20) to 4450 Cherry Lane, Indianapolis, IN 46228 and/or make a donation in her memory to the Indiana Native Plant Society (notifications to pbhinkle@gmail.com).
