David B. Newland passed away July 14, 2023. He was the son of the late Chester and Marthalou (Deem) Newland. He spent his younger years in Kokomo, Indiana where he and his sister, Denise dressed in iconic Beatle attire, including wigs that emulated their idol’s hairstyles. David started his own band, Dave and the Dragsters. His family then moved to Indianapolis where he graduated from Arlington High School, class of 1973. David brought joy, humor, music, and a touch of the 60’s and 70’s to the lives of his family and friends. David also enjoyed following the Colts, Pacers and Indiana Hoosiers. He could often be found watching their games, reading about them or watching their historic games from 15 years ago.. much to his wife’s dismay.
David was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He served as his Sunday School class President for several years. He also taught the freshmen Sunday School class, introducing them to his love for music. He inspired the teens to not only appreciate music, but also develop a love for God.
David had many other hobbies which included traveling, fishing, and taking the backroads in life. He wanted to see life as it was.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donetta (Brown) Newland. He met Donetta at a Singles Mystery Dinner on Valentines Day 1981. He is survived by his 2 sons; Andrew (Jeanine Hindt), Daniel (Meghan Cavett); sister, Denise Newland; grandchildren, Phoenix Hindt and Davin Newland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Becky Clouse.
A private celebration of life is planned.
I am so sorry for you and the family that David has passed. But we both know where he is, and I think he is rocking out with Jesus!
David will be missed by many. He had a great sense of humor. I remember him as a concerned loving father.
Dear Donetta and sons,
We are so sorry for your great loss. All we can say is that God takes care of HIS own. He will care for you all. We are praying for GOD’s comfort and peace during this difficult time. We send our love along with our prayers. Charles and Bess Kirby
David was my best buddy. We were so close as siblings and did a lot together as playmates. His kindness was shown to me every year, especially on Valentines, knowing that was always a difficult day for me. I could always count on his love and flowers every year! One year he and Drew showed up at my home with flowers and a song. David was an excellent writer, something he didn’t really share like he should have. He wrote songs and poetry, which I told him numerous times he should try to publish. He was born with a love of music. There were times when he wanted me to sit while he would play different songs from different artists that he enjoyed. Get him started on music or sports and he could talk for hours! He called me every Sunday evening, rain or shine. I will miss him so very much. The void in my life will never be filled again. My only hope is spending eternity with him. Love you, David
Dave, I’m gonna miss you! I enjoyed working with you for many years at Ricoh and I always enjoyed talking with you about music, fishing, and just work stuff! You were a great example of what working hard is! Enjoy heaven now and one day I will see you again!
