A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46224 on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:00 am, with a viewing starting at 9:00 am until time of the mass.
Daniel George Hazelwood left his earthly life to be present with his Lord on Friday, March 14, 2025. He was born to James and Leona (Hatfield) Hazelwood on March 9, 1947, in Indianapolis, IN. He enjoyed his childhood years in the Indianapolis near westside neighborhood and his beloved Flackville area. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 2 older brothers, Donald & Richard. Their wives, Clara and Beverly survive. He is survived by his wife Barbara, to whom he was happily married for 30 years, his children Valerie Leak (Bill), Vicki Crawford (Scott), and Douglas Hazelwood (Melanie), and his 3 granddaughters Erika Ulery (Sam), Emily McGarr (Cian), and Anna Crawford. He also loved his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. After graduation from Northwest High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in finance at Indiana University. He stayed on the west side of Indianapolis, and spent the next several decades working in sales, selling everything from televisions to insurance to swimming pools. He was well known for his incredible ability with customers. He was a passionate lifelong learner with an extensive library of resources in his home on history, church history, and the Bible. He authored 2 books and taught a class in church history. He was an active member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. For 40 years, he was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and sponsored dozens of people on their journeys to sobriety. He loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and never hesitated to express his love to his family in words or deeds. Dan and Barb traveled the world and included the grandchildren on many trips. Interment will be at Washington Park North Cemetery.
