Memories of Johnie L. Hamilton
John (Johnie) L. Hamilton arrived in the world October 31, 1939 as the fifth child of Rubbie Dell and Willie Lee Hamilton. From the day he was born to his last day on earth, he was filled with humility and concern fo rothers.. A native of Ellabell, Ga., he attended elementary school at Mill Creek School. As a young man he worked at Johnson Nursery and Bradley Plywood Company before moving to Indianapolis Indiana in 1965. As a resident of Indianapolis he worked for the City of Indianapolis and the University of Indiana Hospital.. John loved backyard gardening, listening to blues stations while sitting in his truck and sitting on his front porch as he watched the world go by. As a kidney transplant survivor he shared his life with his late son Elmer Hamilton who donated the kidney 27 years ago., His favorite quote was ‘Goodnight” when he was about to hang up the phone. John’s courage, selfless acts of concern and dependability led him to charge into a burning house to save the lives of two young nephews. John’s humble and quiet wisdom made him a great friend, dependable confidant, exceptional father and a cherished family elder. On July 24, 2018, John was called home to rest.
