David Trull Tyler, 72 of Westfield, IN, formerly of Warsaw, IN, died August 27, 2018 in Carmel, IN. David was born on August 2, 1946 in Aurora, IL to Claude T. and Erba J. (Ames) Tyler. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, an older sister, Sandra, and a twin brother Donald.
David is survived by his wife C. Joan (Grimes) Tyler, his sons Jonathan (Melisa) Tyler, Timothy (Shelia) Tyler, and Matthew (Laura) Mitchell, and his grandchildren Luke, Lillian, Rachel, Rebekah, Jacob, and Nicholas.
Dave was a graduate or Warsaw Community High school and attended Purdue University. He was a Veteran of the United State Army and served during the Vietnam Era in the Air Defense Artillery as a fire control specialist of Nike-Hercules missiles in both the United States and in Germany. Dave, like his father before him, was the Owner and President of Tyler Machinery Company in Warsaw. He used his natural engineering, communication, and analytical talents to design and manufacture industrial woodworking machinery which he then sold worldwide. He took great pride in his company employing many people from the Warsaw community. Dave later owned Azure Software and developed applications for industrial manufacturing companies. Dave would sometimes introduce himself as a farmer and enjoyed tending to his farm ground and home east of Oswego affectionately referred to by him as “The Briar Patch”. Later in retirement, Dave was a supporter of environmental issues and led efforts to implement environmentally sound local public policies. He was a member of the board of directors of the Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners and Director Emeritus of The Watershed Foundation. David’s environmental contributions resulted in recognition in 2007 by the L.T.P.O. as the years Distinguished Lake Citizen and by the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation as a Cattail Award winner which is presented for outstanding environmental service. Dave was an avid tennis player and played well into retirement. He enjoyed playing at the Warsaw Racquet Club and later the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs baseball fan and was one of the millions of longsuffering fans that found sweet relief and joy when he saw the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
