A Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, 2728 N. Sherman Dr., Indianapolis, 46218, starting at 12:00 noon, with a viewing from 10:00 am until time of the service.
Leonard R. Barnett, affectionately known as “Cadillac” and “Lightening,” was born on June 23, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Richard and Lorene Barnett. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Leonard spent his life building strong relationships and working hard.
Leonard attended School 62 and Arsenal Tech High School. At the age of 16, he began working in construction, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. He later worked for Brunes Asphalt and eventually retired from Apex Paving Company after many years of faithful service. Leonard was married to Willie Pearl, until 2001. Known for his tremendous personality, Leonard never met a stranger. His warm smile, quick wit, and generous spirit made him a friend to everyone he encountered. He truly had a heart of gold and enjoyed spending time laughing and joking with family and friends.
A faithful member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, Leonard’s faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching western movies, spending time outdoors, and sharing good food with those he loved.
Leonard departed this life on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 82. He leaves behind his life partner, Teresa Glover; sisters, Norma Wooden and Olivia Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Leonard Barnett jr. former-wife Willie Pearl Barnett, and sister, Carolyn Johnson.
Leonard’s kindness, sense of humor, and loving nature will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, friendship, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
