I have no words that are my own
I am sorry
You will be missed. You made my friend so happy, happier than I’ve seen her in so long. God speed Apple. It was a pleasure to have met you.
Saddened to hear about Apple’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the family as well as the young adults he worked with and his coworkers.
I worked with Apple when he started at North High School. I always loved when he would come into the office, he was always upbeat and quirky and you could really see that he loved his job and his students. He will be deeply missed!
Dear Susy and family,
Jason and I have been thinking of you and Apple so much, and mourning the loss of such a kind-hearted, generous man. We loved being his neighbor, and then after we moved away, it was always so good to run into him again and catch up a bit. He was one of the bright lights in our little community of friends and acquaintances, and I can’t believe that he is gone.
I deeply admired his work with his students, and I keep wondering just how many people he touched, how many are affected by this enormous loss. I will always remember his unique perspective on life, his great grin and interesting stories to tell, and his genuine compassion and respect for people of all ages. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Maggie & Jason Hanna
Apple was a unique, talented and dedicated educator who gave so many students the tools needed to be successful in the working world. I’m sure that barely begins to describe all his talents. He will never truly know how many lives he touched with his gift. Thoughts are with his students, coworkers, friends and family.
Apple gave so much to others and he had so much more to share. In his life, there is a lesson for all of us. I am sure many families are grateful for his help on their journeys. Prayer and hugs to all of those whose lives will never be the same.
To Apple’s family and friends,
I am saddened to hear about Apple’s death. He was such a gentle soul. I always loved hearing him talk about his vision for decent life for all. He was one of the kindest people I have ever known.
You in my thoughts and prayers.
Dear Susy,
I’m so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Apple was one my favorite people. I always looked forward to his stories when he stopped by the Ed Center. He was quite possibly the most open-minded, respectful, and compassionate man I have ever met. We all admired his passion for his work and his dedication to his students. We love and miss you, Apple.
Dear Susy and family,
while I never got to meet any of Apple’s family, I want you to know what a profound impact Apple made on my family and I. Apple officiated at mine and my wife’s wedding here in Bloomington, IN (June 9, 2001), as he was a close and old friend to my wife, Lara Weaver. Some years later when my family and I were in the midst of a huge addition to our house and our contractor disappeared and later filed for bankruptcy, Apple stepped up to the plate and offered about 2 or 3 months worth of free labor and deep skills and knowledge in finishing the project ourselves. During this time of working one on one together, I came to know and love Apple deeply for his hilarious sense of dry humor, love for a well built guitar, and devil may care attitude.
Sadly, when Apple moved up to Indy, we slowly but surely lost contact with him and would miss him and think of him fondly, up to the day before last when we heard of his death.
We love Apple Scooby Doo Serendipity Quick/Troy Burris with all our hearts and won’t ever stop!
Sincerely,
Kevin MacDowell

I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Apple many years ago when I first started scootering and he was just as wild and crazy as you could ask for! I do know he loved his work as a teacher. I am just sad to know how many more children he could have shared his love and knowledge with. My very deepest condolences. Angie

So sorry to hear this sad news. I met Apple when he started working at Bloomington HS North. I admired his laid back style, his compassion for his students and his strongly held values and convictions. He was a very good man and touched many lives as a teacher, and an example of living your beliefs. Warm thoughts go out to Apple’s family and close friends at this time. It’s very hard when good folks are gone too soon.
He was always great to talk to. I miss him, and will from now on.
It was a privilege to know and work with Apple for the past two decades, beginning when he was an undergraduate student in one of my classes, through his leadership role as part of the SITE transition program at IUPUI. Apple lived according to his principles and demonstrated the utmost respect for all living beings. To watch him support his students to become self-determined young adults was to watch a gifted teacher in action. He was honest, loving, thoughtful, sensitive, intelligent, and generous. He was also a unique and wonderful person who gently touched innumerable lives. He is loved and will be missed tremendously.
My heart goes out to Apple’s family members.
In sympathy,
Pat Rogan
We’re so sorry to learn that Apple has passed. He was a true free spirit and will always be fondly remembered as one of the early Homies. Peace.
The death of apple has shocked us to the bone. We did not see much of apple but on his visit he was such a massive hit with everyone he met. you never knew what was behind that smile, had he hidden your sock or was he just smiling because he was happy. When apple and i met we just clicked , as forrest gump said, “we were like peas and carrots”. fantastic mate with a fantastic sense of humour, it will be a good while before another worthy soul can fill his boots. bless you all . love and condolences from alex and the english vulcan scooter club.
so sorry to hear that he passed. From a fellow scooterist in the UK. I will have a thought for a fellow scooter rider today
Apple was such a kind hearted sweet person. We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with your entire family.

Apple was a teacher in the MCCSC while I was the director of special education. He was one of the best teachers and persons I ever had the opportunity to work with. He was caring, thoughtful, and insightful. The profession and students need more people like Apple. He was a treasure.
I am so sorry for your loss
