Donald Byron Hutchison of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on August 9, 2015. Born on June 20,1940, to Glen and Nellie Hutchison, in Anderson, Indiana. At thirteen, his family moved to Frankton, IN in order to start Hutchison’s Orchard.
As a student at Frankton High School, Donald discovered running, which became a lifelong passion of his. Upon high school graduation, Donald attended Butler University where he studied English and History, and earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. Donald became a high school English teacher at Beech Grove High School, as well as a Cross Country and Track coach, and embarked on a long career in education, with a majority of those years spent teaching English at Ben Davis High School. After retiring from education, he spent 12 years as a groundskeeper and crew supervisor for the Brickman Group. Donald and his wife, Patricia, attended Edgewood United Methodist Church where Donald became involved in teaching Sunday School classes and served on the Church Board. As a man of faith and stewardship, with a heartfelt commitment to serve others, Donald worked as an English as a Second Language volunteer at Vida Nueva United Methodist Church up until his recent hospitalization.
Donald loved being outdoors, rarely missing an opportunity to go on a run, work in his garden, plow the driveway, or tend to his various fruit trees. He was also a voracious reader and a lifelong student of history. He loved people and was known for striking up conversations with strangers in public and always finding a way to make them laugh and feel better than the did before speaking to him.
Donald is survived by his wife, Patricia Hutchison, sister Jeanne Hutchison Kirk, children Keith, Andrew (Maggie) and Sarah (Justin) Hutchison and grand daughter Elsa Mae Cheney.

I knew Don in high school as I was a teacher there at that time. Don was not only a good runner, but a basketball player and the kind of student every teacher would want to have. If they were all like Don, what a much better world we would have today.
Very sorry to hear this and wish the family the best and remember the good times! Don had plenty of those and provided others the same.
