A Funeral Service will be Friday, August 21, 2026 at Light of the World Christian Church, 4646 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, 46228, starting at 11:00 am with a viewing starting at 10:00 am until time of the service. Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Emma Houchins was born on July 14, 1938, in Forest, Mississippi, to the late Allen Holifield and Janie Holifield.
At an early age, Emma accepted Christ at Christ Missionary Baptist Church. Emma lived a life rooted in faith, prayer and service. Emma also hosted a family Bible Study group in her home for many years, where family and friends would gather to fellowship and study the word. Emma was a devout Christian and believer of Jesus Christ.
Emma was a proud graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, class of 1956. She went on a long-dedicated career with Western Electric, where she worked for many years. After retirement, Emma continued her life of service by providing childcare for many years, caring for and nurturing many children over the years.
Emma found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved attending Zumba, where she enjoyed staying active and social. She also enjoyed watching Westerns and shopping in her free time.
Emma will be remembered for her kindness, strength, strong faith and the deep love she poured into her family. She spent her life creating a warm and welcoming home, hosting holiday gatherings, and faithfully bringing her family together year after year. Her legacy of compassion, unity and devotion to Jesus Christ will continue to live on through all those she has touched.
Emma Louise Houchins departed this life on August 14, 2026, while being cared for by her devoted daughters.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Janie Holifield; her husband McSimmons Houchins as well as her beloved children: McSimmons Houchins Jr., Lisa Houchins, and Anthony Jermaine Riley; her siblings Willie Ruth Anderson, Ruthie Mae Blackmon and Allen Holifield Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Nina Gant (Jesse), Latonya Murphy (Carey) and JoCarol Owens (Gaylan). Siblings Daniel Holifield, Jerome Holifield and Dwayne Holifield, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will forever hold her close to their hearts.
