Larry will not be having a service. As much as we wanted to give him one, we must respect his wishes that he didn’t want one.
Our daddy always believed in receiving his flowers and celebrations for life while he was ALIVE!
We not only respect it, but we understand it.
To know our daddy, “Mr. Larry”, “Paw Paw”, “Pops”, “L”, or Larry Vandever was to LOVE him. He definitely left an impression with anyone he came in contact with! His radiant smile and that boisterous laugh will never be forgotten.
And of course if you knew him, you knew he could talk!
Larry is survived by his mother, Shirley Byrd-Phelps, his children, Tawne’, Shawna, Elijah, and Isaiah Vandever. And a host of relatives and friends. Larry is also survived by his 10 grandchildren of which he truly loved and adored. Damico, Zahmaira, Zayda, Taelor, Tanaia, Tawne’ Jr., Tavaris, Elijah Jr., Mya, and Josiah.
We love you daddy so much and we’re sure going to miss you.
Hell, we miss you already.
But you’re not suffering anymore, nobody can hurt you anymore, and you’re pain free.
We know you gotta lot of catching up to do with B and the rest of your family.
We know you’ll be visiting us soon, if you haven’t already.
Get your rest daddy, we got you.
As he would always end a conversation…”In a minute” daddy.
My friend as I was looking back on messenger I started crying but I’m glad we always closed our conversation with an I Love you I miss you but you are in a better place Rest In Peace my dear friend your Puerto Rican friend. Iris ❤️

Although your work on earth is done, your life in heaven has just begun. Your struggles here were hard and long, but they’re over now; your finally home. Life wasn’t easy, by choice or fate. A decision made, sometimes too late. A fight to the finish, always strong. Rest easy, your finally home.
Condolences to the family.
I love you so much daddy! I’m so happy you’re free! I rejoice and cry for you at the same time. It’s hard knowing I’ll never see you again. But I was so tired of watching you hurt and suffer. I know you’re happy and because of that, I will be ok.
I love you so so much and I hope you went to Heaven knowing that!
In a minute daddy—

Thank you
So sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I worked with Larry for so many years at Merchant, National City and PNC Bank. Larry had a big heart and a fantastic sense of humor.
Larry like to have a little to much to drink at our annual Christmas Party and I always made sure he got home safely.
The funniest thing I can remember was one night in October when Dan Quail was Vice President he was working security on our back dock. The car that the V.P. came in was parked on the dock. The building had been going thru some brick work and it was very windy and the wind caused the platform hanging from the building to fall. It was rainy, cold and dark. It dropped on the V.P.’s vehicle. Larry thought some one had starting shooting at him!
He later said to me: “Phyllis, I almost turned white when I hit the deck, because I thought someone was shooting at me.”
Larry I have thought of you often over the years since I left the bank. Rest in peace my friend!
I’m so lost and hurt without you! Though I had the blessing and honor of taking care of you your last days I feel as if a piece of me passed away with you! You will always be my best friend and “Pop” I miss you so much dad you taught me so much of what a man is supposed to be.
Love You and in a minute
Elijah Leonard Vandever Sr.
