Samuel Martin Colvin, Jr, 76,  was born August 16, 1939 in Greensboro,

North Carolina to Samuel Martin Colvin, Sr. and Nettie (Crosby)
Colvin.  As young child, he moved with his parents, brother (Joe
Willie) and sister (Sara) to Baltimore, Maryland.  After completing
high school in Baltimore, he entered the United States Army and serviced
in the Korean War.

In 1967, Sam moved to Indianapolis, and in 1969 married the former
Helen J. Barner, with whom he had one son, Roddrick. Sam spent much of
his career working for National Starch and Chemical, and retired in
2005, after 30 years of service.  During his most active years, he
finished college, was an avid bowler, fisherman, and cook.  He was a
long-time member of the Eastside Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother (Joe
Willie), sister (Sara), and two sons, Michael and Samuel.

He survived by his son, Roddrick, and two step-children, Tondaleia
(Marshall) Jefferson and Richard Marshall, and their respective families, including, Todd Marshall and Chris Marshall.

He is also survived his long-time companion, Floretta M. Hall, and her
daughters, Shanika (Gene) Hicks and Latosha (James) Bivens.  He was
the ‘Crazy Joe,’ ‘Joe Bro,’ ‘Batman,’ and ‘Grandpa’ to over 10 grand
kids and seven great-grand kids.

Finally, he is survived by many friends and extended family.  Throughout
his life he got to know a lot of people. He was  known as a good provider,
with a big heart. Anytime he could help, he would.  If he could
not help, he would try anyway.  He was a good friend, husband, father,
brother, uncle, cousin, and companion to many.
