On January 3rd, 2020, Sandra Kay Russell passed away at the age of 67.
Sandra was born February 29, 1952 in Lincoln, KY to the late James and Mary Russell. She grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from North Central High School. She was a lifelong learner, fluent in French, and a gifted musician with several instruments. She loved books, puzzle solving, and would correctly answer any Jeopardy question. She had a passion for cooking and a green thumb in the garden.
Sandra created a beautiful blended family and is survived by her five children: Stephanie Louise, Christopher James, Althea Marie, Alana Angel, Alysabeth Anne; 11 grandchildren, Joshua, Aerienne, Christina, Zakk, Eveneus, Alysha, Landon, Liam, Bryce, Brittnie, Harper; and two great grandchildren.
Lyrics from one of her favorite songs:
“Love can change the world
Love can change your life
Do what makes you happy
Do what you know is right
And love with all your might
Before its too late”
“My Song” by The Moody Blues
Sincere condolences on the loss of your Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend.
Sandra and I “shared” a best friend; Marquerite Druskis. Marquerite considered Sandra to be her best friend. Sandra, along with myself and many others, mourned when Marquerite passed in 2000. Now, 20 years later, Sandra joins her parents and cherished friend. I hope believing this is a comfort for those of you who were close to Sandra and mourn her passing today and beyond.
I regret losing touch with Sandra these past 20 years. She was never entirely out of my thoughts and I hope she recalled me sometimes as well. Fondly, I hope!
My best memories of Sandra and Marquerite center on Pinball! We loved Pinball and played it at every opportunity. I believe there was a place in Broad Ripple with Pinball machines near where Marquerite worked for a time. (Perhaps they worked there together but, I forget.) More concrete are the memories of playing Pinball at Pap’s Pub on 54th Street near Keystone Avenue. Such fun!
The two houses Sandra lived in that I remember best are the one on 58th Street near Michigan Road (I live just blocks from there now!) and the really cool “historic” house on Oak (I think – Street, Drive….?). Good memories: Althea & Alana were little girls then.
The world lost a beautiful and talented woman. Rest in peace, Sandra.
In another time’s forgotten space
your eyes looked through your mother’s face
Wildflower seed on the sand and stone
may the four winds blow you safely home.
