Leonard Henry Walston, 81, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Majestic Care of North Vernon, in North Vernon, IN. He was born June 4, 1944 in Wilson, North Carolina, to the late Ashley E. Walston and Addie L. Morris Walston.

In June 1965, Leonard married the love of his life, Catherine Walston, who preceded him in death in August 2025. They led a life full of many adventures. Shortly after their marriage, he enlisted and served as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force. After his time in the military, they settled in their home state of North Carolina to raise a family. He worked for several years as a delivery driver for Sunbeam Bread. Later he became a long-haul truck driver for various companies over about a 25-year span. He enjoyed driving the big trucks so much that he became a driving instructor, to teach and pass along his knowledge to new drivers. In 2007 they moved to Columbus Indiana to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Leonard enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, gardening and fishing. He especially loved fishing. He loved going fishing with his brothers on the coast of North Carolina. From deep sea fishing, to fishing from a boat in the sound, and even river or lake fishing, he absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. He also enjoyed working in his shop making birdhouses, yard décor, and doing many other wood-working projects.

Leonard is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Kevin) Asay of Columbus, IN, and Teresa Price of Inverness, FL; grandchildren, Jessica Gilpin, Michael (Misty) Asay, and David Owens; great-grandchildren, Lily, Skyler, and Peyton; his brother, Melvin Walston of Manns Harbor, NC, and his sister, Elaine Overton of Sneedville, TN, along with many nieces, and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Walston, his sister, Ann Mullins, and his great-grandson, Cole Marshall.

A service with military honors for Leonard will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, IN, with Chaplain Jason Quellhorst officiating.
